Cactus Tannery Receives Gold Certification for 8th Time

The JBS USA tannery facility in Cactus, Texas, was recently audited by the Leather Working Group (LWG) and retained its Gold status certification, thanks to the team’s efforts in producing sustainable leather. This is the eighth time the Cactus plant has received the Gold rating in this certification.

The LWG international protocol consists of world recognized brands such as Adidas, Michael Kors, Nike, as well as suppliers, retailers, and leather companies, coming together to discuss and promote efficient and sustainable practices in the global industry. The Gold rating in recertification represents a company’s commitment to sustainability around the world. For a company to earn this certification, it must operate within the LWG’s environmental, health, and safety requirements, and include data logging for production and process traceability of raw material.

“Keeping this certification confirms that we are strongly committed to JBS USA’s sustainability goals,” said Marcus Vinicius, Cactus Tannery General Manager. “Customers are looking for sustainable production and this certification proves the sustainability of our product.”

Part of the Cactus plant initiatives on sustainability include sharing water conservation techniques with team members, investing in wastewater treatment methods, and recycling as much waste material as possible.
